Description:
Lake Koocanusa is a large 90 mile Lake formed a few miles east and north of Libby, Montana. The dam was built to control the flow of the Kootenai River. The dam was completed in 1972. It was a flood control dam as well as to generate power. The name came from combining Canada and The United States to the Kootenai river. There are several great recreational sites along the lake. The route to take from Libby,Montana is Hwy. 37. It runs on the east side of the lake most of the way until you reach Rexford. Rexford is a small community just west of Eureka. Eureka is the first town people come to and from Canada on Hwy.93. There are homes located near Rexford. Across the impressive bridge, the road gets you to the West Kootenai as well as the Yaak. A road also runs on the west side of the lake. Fishing can be great with lots of Kokanee Salmon as well as Rainbow and Bull Trout.
Homes in the Rexford area are few with a develpment providing access to the lake.Rexford West also has some access to the lake. There is a nice camping and boat launch east of Rexford.. There is a new golf course being developed on the east side of the lake. It will be quite a growing area! |
