Fishhawk Lake is a man made private lake located in Oregon's Columbia county. There is a web site www.FishhawkLake.com which will assist you. The lake is very close to the Clatsop County line. Take Hwy.202 and go north about 4 miles, and 1 mile east of Birkenfeld. It is 4 miles west of Mist.
The Lake is home to a large number of private homes. A club was formed which consists of 305 platted lots on approximately 300 acres. There are 257 private lots. Permanent residences,vcation homes and cabins number about 135.
Fishhawk Lake is unique for three reasons according to the web site.www.fishhawklake.com. The lake is one of the few, if any, that exist in Northwest Oregon, it is a private lake, and it is a man-made lake. The lake is about 1-1/4 miles long and has about 2-3/4 miles of shoreline. It is approximately 100 acres in size and some 800 ft. above sea level. Three springs and a mountain fed stream assure a year round flow of water into the lake. The primary feeder stream is Fishhawk Creek, entering at the east end of the lake and exiting at the west end of the lake. The lake depth is about four feet where the creek enters, to about 30 feet where the creek exits. An earthen dam, 395’ long and 35’ high, is located at the west end of the lake, featuring a 42’ diameter, 20' deep "Glory Hole" spillway, that maintains the desired lake water level. A 200' long, state of the art fish ladder, containing a series of stair-stepped pools, provides for steelhead and salmon access to the lake.
Fishhawk Creek is the main feeder stream. There is a fish ladder to assist the spawning salmon and steelhead.The lake has native cutthroat and is open year around to fishing. The area is close to the Columbia River and the ocean fishing out of Astoria.
