The Long Tom is not a large body of water until the Fern Ridge Dam releases water to flow towards the Willamette River. The river begins in the Coast Range west of Junction City and near Horton. It flows through tree filled valleys as it makes it way to Fern Ridge Reservoir. There are numerous homes located on this stretch which is over 25 miles long. The variety is great as to size of home and amount of land. It is possible to begin just above $100,000 and way up. The town of Elmira is located close to where to river meets the lake. The town of Monroe is the largest town north of the Reservoir. Farms are located on both sides of the River as it flows another 20 or so miles until it greets the Willamette. The lower river has more expensive homes on it as it is close to Junction City and Corvallis.
