Description:
Santiam River is really a short section of the North, Middle and South Forks. It has a stretch running under Interstate I-5 as it flows into the Willamette River.This sectionis about 12 miles. This river is a very productive fishery with as much of 70 percent of Willamette River run of steelhead. The North and South Forks are where most of the river develops. The Santiam river runs into the Willamette River just north of Albany. The routes to the river are easy to follow from Interstate I-5 you can travel east from Jefferson on Hwy. 22 to Stayton. That is the North Fork. From Salem or Albany east on Hwy. 22 east, you can follow the South Fork as its runs along the river up to lakes and up to its source in the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness. There are homes on both sides of the river with towns like Stayton, Mehama, Mill City and Detroit providing services. The South Santiam is near the towns of Lebanon and Sweet Home. Foster and Green Peter reservoirs hold back flood waters that Sweet Home and home owners appreciate in those rain filled days. There are homes on the river from Sweet Home down.Prices will vary with homes costing more in the lower river which is closer to work for more. I see nice homes from $300,000 and up on river sites. |
