The South Umpqua begins its journey in the foothills of the Cascades. It travels west through the small towns of Tiller, Days Creek, Tri City, Dillard, Winston, Green and the main city of Douglas County, Roseburg. The easiest route after leaving I-5 is east on 227. The river is a good winter fishery and in the summer bass fishing is excellent. This area is farm land and forested area. It is quite lovely. Most of the area has larger acreages. The homes on the river after leaving Roseburg a few mile are generally less expensive than on any other part of the river. It is quite possible to find a nice property and not pay and arm and a leg.
