Clark Fork, Montana
	Description: The Clark Fork of the Columbia is the longest river in Montana.The river is commercially navigable from Deerlodge,Montana to the Idaho state border and into the Lake Pend Oreille. The river begins its trek near Butte and grows as it nears Warm Springs, Montana. Silverbow Creek adds to the flow. The Clark Fork reaches into Idaho some 333 miles from its source. The Upper Clark was best known for its pollution and lack of fishing. It has improved with considerable effort with pollution control from the mines near and around Butte. The Milltown dam near Bonner and Missoula is in the final stages of eliminating the dam.The river runs through Missoula, Frenchtown,Superior and continues west.The Clark Fork can be reached off Interstate Hwy.90 as it carves its waywest through beautiful mountains and into the banana belt of Montana near Plains. The river and Hwy.35 turns north at St.Regis. The river of the same name St.Regis flows into the Clark Fork just outside town.The highway follows and river and canyon as it flows towards Plains.Hwy. 200 is intersected and runs on through Thompson Falls to Noxon and into Idaho. Plains and Thompson Falls and Trout Creek and Noxon are smaller communities that grew up on the Clark Fork and reached off Hwy. 200.. The river after moving through several dams meets the state line of Idaho. Above Plains,the Flathead River runs into the Clark Fork where Hwy.95 and 200 meet. The Clark Fork becomes quite large from there on as it flows west towards Idaho. There are several dams for flood control and energy. West of the town of Thompson Falls the first dam river slows down the flow.There are a number of homes located on both sides of the river. The next 59 miles has dams and the river looks like a large lake. The fishing on the lakes is great for bass, trout and pike. The river runs into Idaho near Cabinet Gorge Dam(Owned by Avista Power) so no true ownership of its shore line. The river reaches Idaho at an elevevation of 2175 ft. The Thompson Falls area is mostly private property with many newer homes located on both sides of the river.There is quite a variety of price ranges. The closer you get to Missoula the demand increases on waterfront property. Missoula is the second biggest city in the state and home to the University of Montana Grizzles, the football national champions of their division in 2001-2.There basketball teams also have been very successful. The womens program is elite in its conference. The men and women have been at the top of their conference for 2004-2008. The area is also where several great fishing rivers run into the Clark Fork. The Blackfoot, Bitterroot,and the famous Rock Creek are all close by Missoula. The price of property varies with the amount of frontage, size of acreage and quality of construction.
